R (Small Washington Tablet)

7.  At left in the great illustration below (ca 1000 AD) we can see Aries (the Ram) in contact with Taurus .- and they both look towards the center. At right Virgo is in contact with Leo and they both look towards the center of the upraised into full view ecliptic plane (dome of the sky):

The central part of this upraised sky (Rumia, Waka-Chan, Milky Way)

has Orion below the Gemini constellation.

Below Virgo (and in contact with Corvus) we can see the Stern of Argo Navis. This makes sense because below the horizon in the west the path of the Sun should continue downwards.

The view with Orion high up and in full view is that which can be observed in the dark winter nights north of the equator. And with his sword he seems to illustrate the true horizontal direction, making it clear that the central part of the sky indeed has been pushed up.

It appears as if he has the sword in his left hand, but as we can see from the other figures, in reality it is his right hand. Under the earth (in the night) time-space runs withershins, implying an apparent reversal of the directions of left and right. The Sun must travel withershins in order to be reborn from the hole at the horizon in the east.

The directions up and down, on the other hand, are not changing at the equinoxes but instead at the solstices.

... Then occurred a curious event. Whether Atea had wearied of bringing forth offspring we are not told, but certain it is that Atea and her husband Fa'a-hotu exchanged sexes. Then the eyes of Atea glanced down at those of his wife Hotu and they begat Ru. It was this Ru who explored the whole earth and divided it into north, south, east, and west ...

The beginning of side b on the C tablet evidently coincides with the First Point of Aries - Sheratan (β Arietis, *27) - ideally visible close to the right ascension of the Full Moon in the night. From which we can conclude that the Sun will soon reach the right ascension line connected to the brightest star in the northern hemisphere, viz. Arcturus (*215 = *27 + *183 + *5) in Bootes constellation.

In Roman times Sheratan would have risen *27 precessional days earlier, i.e. at 0h according to the Gregorian calendar.

392 (Ca14-29) = 365 + 27.

April 17 (107) = 80 (March 21) + 27.

But the Bootes constellation cannot be seen in the overview star map above, because Aries is visible at far left. Which means Bootes should be below the horizon at far right.

October 22 (295 → 10 lunar synodic nights) = 365 - 70. And 295 = 265 (September equinox) + 30. Which implies there should be 100 days from the September equinox to the end of the year. December 31 (365, *285) = September 22 (265, *185) = 100.

*215 (Arcturus) - *183 *32 (Mira, ο Cetus).

With Aries at far left in the star map above we can draw the conclusion the Cetus ought to be the strange beast below. And indeed we can find lesser stars around β (Deneb Kaitos) at left and another great star up at the eye (close to the mouth) at right, viz. Menkar (α, *44).

The star in between named the Belly of the Fish (ζ, Baten Kaitos, *26) and Mira (ο, *32) - in the flowing hair of the Sea Beast - are also there and properly located.

... The four bereaved and searching divinities, the two mothers and their two sons, were joined by a fifth, the moon-god Thoth (who appears sometimes in the form of an ibis-headed scribe, at other times in the form of a baboon), and together they found all of Osiris save his genital member, which had been swallowed by a fish ...

... Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. Had it not been that he (repented and) glorified Allah, He would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection. - Qur'an, chapter 37 (As-Saaffat), verse 139–144. But We cast him forth on the naked shore in a state of sickness, And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind. And We sent him (on a mission) to a hundred thousand (men) or more. And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. - Qur'an, chapter 37 (As-Saaffat), verse 145–148 ...
